The weather can’t decide if it is Summer or Fall, but one look at the calendar will tell you Fall has arrived! Here are some activities from the Fall Fun Guide for this week!

    • Kids’ Korner: Ticks, Poison Ivy, and Copperheads Oh My! 1 – 2 pm (3-5 yrs). 5040 Walney Road, Chantilly, VA 703-631-0013 http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/ecl/Preschool children learn a little nature and history once a month, accompanied by an adult. An outdoor activity and craft included. Programs designed to help transition children into their school years. No older siblings please; space is limited. Reservations required. $5/ child.
  • Friday October 9
    • Oktoberfest Reston 3pm – 11pm Fri. Reston Town Center http://www.oktoberfestreston.com/ Food and drink will be available in exchange for tickets purchased onsite; each item ranging from $1 – $5 in value. Thousands of visitors will sample the best in fall brews and delicious traditional Oktoberfest fare provided by some of Reston’s finest eateries. In addition to a delightful selection of classic German beers and wines provided by The Wine Cabinet, the event features live music throughout both days at the main pavilion stage, and this year there will be a carnival and a 5K run — see the site for more details.
  • Saturday October 10
    • Catholic Consignments, 8am to noon, half-price 12:30 – 2pm, NEW LOCATION Belmont Ridge Middle School, 19045 Upper Belmont Place, Leesburg, V 20176 Half-price from 12:30 to 2pm.     • Dani’s Duds, 9am to 5pm, Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, VA. Toys, books, videos, CDs, software, coats, clothing, furniture, anything and everything for your babies, infants, toddlers, all children 12 and under. Consignors’ sale on 10/9, Volunteers’ sale 10/8. www.danisduds.com
    • Spring-Mar Cooperative Preschool Consignment Sale 8am-1pm 10125 Lakehaven Court, Burke VA 22015 http://www.spring-mar.org/
    • Fire Prevention Open House — ALL Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Stations 10am – 4pm — as part of Fire Prevention week all Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Stations will have open houses with fun activities designed to teach children (and parents!) important fire safety tips. Often these include live kitchen fire demonstrations, a chance to see fire trucks, and fun games such as squirting cones with miniature fire hoses, crawling through a dark maze (to simulate going through dense smoke) and more! Contact your local fire station for details.

      Make a friend for your garden or lawn. Bring pants and shirt for your new friend, an old pair of panty hose (for head and body), and we will supply the stuffing and know-how. $6 per scarecrow
