Mom’s Mad Skillz On Wii Fit Plus

Like everyone else on the planet, I’ve resolved to get in better shape in 2010. And while I haven’t formulate my exact plan yet, this does include exercise. And since I gave myself, uh, I mean the JavaKids gave me an upgrade to Wii Fit for Christmas, I’ve decided to use that for my exercise routine.

The kids like to watch me as I go through my routine, which is really a matter of using the “Combine” feature and selecting some Warm-Up exercises and a variety of options (i.e. “Form,” “Leaner Mii,” “Tummy” and so on) and it usually selects the Skateboarding game for me for one of the exercises. Which I’ve been pretty terrible at, and JavaBoy is usually quick to point out.

Maybe it is because I’m competing against other bloggers now in a weight loss competition, maybe it’s because I was so psyched that I won an iTouch from Yahoo today, but for whatever reason, I went from skateboarding loser to Mommy Thrasher today as I cleared not just Levels 1 and 2, but zoomed all the way up to Level 5. (Sadly, I could not quite manage skateboarding on rails yet — but man, those half pikes were fun!)

I think JavaDad thought I had lost my mind as I was hooting and hollering while jumping off ramps and going up and down the half pikes. It was the first time I really got to “feel” the thrill of skateboarding — yes, I know this is not the real thing, but for a middle-aged mother it was as close as I am currently comfortable getting and it was fun! And to hear my young son saying, “Wow, Mommy, you are really good! I’ve never gotten to Level 5″ was pretty darn rewarding, too!

I’m also a much better hula hooper in the Land of Wii than I am in real life. And I suspect a much better flying bird, though I haven’t tried jumping off any rooftops in real life for comparison.

Tomorrow — I try to skate on the rails again!

What are you doing for exercise in 2010?

We have the Wii Fit Plus also and it is so much fun. I also like EA Active for the Wii. It is more of a true workout, in my opinion, that Wii Fit or Fit Plus. That being said, I use both. EA Active has an expansion pack out now too, but I do not have it…yet. :D

I love all of Jillian Michael’s DVD workouts, but 30 Day Shred is my favorite. Love, love, love it! Awesome workout in roughly 25 minutes.

In addition to the Wii and Jillian’s workouts, I like to do interval training on my own. Plus, I figure all the outside work I have been doing lately counts too! :)

I have been curious about the EA Active as well — I figure I may be ready for that by my birthday! I have very poor workout discipline and form so I like the feedback the Wii gives me both on my form (i.e. “stay within the blue area”) and the instant gratification of “hey, good balance” or nabbing the #1 spot on a balance game! LOL! I’m hoping it may transform me into a more serious exerciser soon, however.

I have been educated by my children that the term used is “grinding the rails”. LOL And that was the hardest one for me to conquer too. Don’t go too fast on the approach! You’ll get there!

I have a hard time picturing myself successfully grinding the rails, but then again, I thought I’d never stop crashing into the walls. (I still crash into the walls, but I used to ONLY crash into the walls.)
